Cary Sidewalk Improvement
Construction Administration
Alpha & Omega Group provided project management, civil, structural, water resources engineering services, and construction administration for the design of new sidewalk infill and a new pedestrian bridge linking sidewalks along existing SW Cary Parkway over Crabtree Creek.
After overseeing the bidding process and award to McQueen Construction, the biggest challenges for the construction administration team were setting the prefabricated pedestrian bridge without interfering with traffic and ensuring public safety. In addition, our team coordinated traffic detours with work being done simultaneously at another busy intersection nearby. The bridge was set on a weekend to reduce inconvenience to the public, with assistance from Cary police for a supervised street closure. The bridge was placed to completely span the 100-year floodway so it would not cause an increase in the base flood elevation, achieving a “no-rise” effect.
Additional construction administration services included scheduling and conducting a preconstruction conference and progress meetings; establishing an invoice review process; assigning change orders; coordinating approval from multiple agencies; performing substantial completion inspections; reviewing material submittals; and creating documentation for filing with the Town of Cary.
