Crabtree Creek Watershed Dam 11 Repair
Construction administration and design
Dam 11A along the Crabtree Creek Watershed was leaking and sediment was clogging the spillway, preventing Wake County officials from controlling lake levels, preserving fish and wildlife habitat and protecting downstream waterways. A&O engineers provided design services to replace the malfunctioning spillway valve with a redundant sliding sluice gate to be installed on the inside of the spillway.

A&O helped gain access to the remote area through private property and coordinated approvals with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Services (US-NRCS), the NC Dam Safety Program and Wake County. To allow work on the inside of the spillway, the weirs on either side were closed to water flow while the new gate was installed. Divers worked from a floating platform to dredge debris from around the existing gate and install a trash gate to prevent further buildup. Our construction administration team scheduled and attended the pre-construction conference, approved shop drawings and other submittals, approved progress payments and conducted site observations. In addition, A&O provided close-out documents and as-built drawings. Ω
