Weiss Avenue Bridge
Bridge Repair and Construction Administration
The City of Fayetteville selected Alpha & Omega Group to provide structural engineering for repairs of a bridge on Weiss Avenue.
Weiss Avenue bridge is a two-span bridge constructed during the 1950’s. To keep it in service, the bridge is routinely inspected as part of the city’s Bridge Management Program. During a routine inspection, A&O noticed severe erosion due to roadway runoff and signs of instability in the bridge’s support structure. On observing these potential hazards, A&O wrote a report with recommendations for the necessary repairs. The City decided to move ahead immediately with the renovations.
After reviewing the inspection reports, Alpha & Omega Group prepared repair plans and specifications for the deck, wingwall and any joints that needed to be replaced. They also prepared the environmental permitting and developed an engineer’s opinion of probable cost for the project. Once the design phase was completed, A&O assisted with bidding, attended pre-bid meetings, issued addenda, and coordinated with the contractor through weekly site inspections and construction administration. Once the construction was complete, they performed a final inspection and delivered as-built drawings to the City. Ω
