Central Prison Site Improvements
Correction of Drainage and Erosion Issues
Alpha & Omega Group assisted the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS) in correcting drainage and erosion control issues at the Central Prison in Raleigh, NC.
The problem was caused by a roof scupper and condensation drain discharging stormwater and condensation run-off onto unstable soil below, resulting in erosion and scour along the lower corner of a building on the prison grounds. Soil was being washed away and if the problem was not corrected soon, larger problems could arise including settlement of sidewalks and foundations.
A&O engineers designed a stormwater or plumbing system to convey the discharge away from the building to prevent further erosion. In addition, we designed a re-grade of the affected area to fill low areas, stabilize the ground surface, and create positive runoff away from the building.
A&O performed a field investigation to assess conditions and obtain measurements, prepared construction documents including drawings with notes for construction, performed incidental phone and email consultations to resolve questions, and reviewed construction materials submittals. Ω
