Wake Forest Greenways
Bridge, Boardwalk, and Flood Study
As part of A. Morton Thomas’ engineering team, Alpha & Omega Group was selected in January of 2013 to design and prepare construction documents for the Wake Forest Priority Pedestrian Corridors. A proposed multi-use trail would cross Richland Creek near the intersection of Oak Avenue and Harris Rd. Richland Creek is within a FEMA detailed study and required a flood study for the stream crossing.
A&O saved the Town approximately $300,000 by re-routing the proposed trail and eliminating a 150-foot pedestrian bridge crossing, using an existing culvert instead.
Engineering services from A&O included preliminary engineering, data collection, and field investigation/reconnaissance for the stream crossing. We provided a hydraulic analysis and narrative summary; developed and submitted a FEMA flood study report; and coordinated for geotechnical investigation and foundations recommendations. We were responsible for design development, construction drawings, and specifications; provided scour analysis, scour protection, and erosion control; and developed an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost.
