Historic Pedestrian Bridge Inspection
Greenville, NC
Alpha & Omega Group provided routine in-service field inspection, analysis, and report preparation for the historic Green Street steel truss bridge that the City of Greenville had converted to pedestrian use in 2005. We performed inspection and reporting in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Manual for Maintenance Inspection for Bridges, and North Carolina Department of Transportation standard bridge inspection procedures.
The complete scope of our services included a hands-on, visual field inspectionof the structure, a structural analysis of the truss, a written report that included photos and sketches, and recommendations for repairs or maintenance, with priority categorization as preventative, special, or prompt action.
Load rating included review of the inspection results to determine effective properties of each element. We identified the condition of each element as well as location and size of each deficiency in the inspection report. We drafted a two-dimensional structural model of the bridge to determine the current static capacity of the structure for both pedestrian and maintenance vehicle use. Ω
