Mingo Creek Greenway
Boardwalk Inspection and Assessments
As subconsultant to WithersRavenel, Alpha & Omega Group performed a structural assessment services for an existing boardwalk along Mingo Creek Greenway in Knightdale, NC. This was part of a larger scale replacment and repair project for the greenway.
The Town of Knightdale wanted to replace the existing five-foot wide timber boardwalk with a 10-foot wide boardwalk. A&O performed a “hands-on” visual condition inspection of each element in the 211- foot long structure. We evaluated the structure to determine its capability to support loads required. We provided a written report documenting the structure with the findings. Detailed written descriptions of the findings were submitted with photographs of deficiencies, along with photographs to completely describe the existing structure. The report offered three alternatives for repair or replacement along with a construction cost estimate for each alternative. A&O recommended completely replacing the boardwalk with a non-wood structure that meets current load-carrying standards. Ω
