Crabtree Creek Trail Boardwalk
Structure 104 Feasibility Study and Repair
Because of flooding during Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, Crabtree Creek Boardwalk Structure 104 floated off its foundations. The warped superstructure was deemed unsafe for public use. After emergency repairs were made by the City, A&O designed permanent repairs that would restore the original capacity of the boardwalk and enable it to withstand another hurricane-level flood.
A&O inspected the structure to determine its condition and capacity. Inspection work included hammer sounding, field measurements of the emergency repairs, documenting damage, and identifying critical areas in need of repair. After the inspection, A&O analyzed the structure, designed permanent repairs, and developed cost estimates and project specifications. Repairs included retrofitting existing helical anchors, replacement of damaged bent caps, and replacing diagonal bracing with chain restraints.
The A&O team provided construction administration services for this project after design was complete. Ω
