Apex Middle Creek Greenway
Structural Services
Alpha & Omega Group, as a consultant to WithersRavenel, provided professional engineering services for Middle Creek Greenway structures in Apex.
A&O’s scope included approximately 1,600 linear feet of timber boardwalk with a lookout, one 40-foot pedestrian bridge, one 45-foot pedestrian bridge, one 70-foot long x 10 feet high modular concrete segmental retaining wall, and one 140-foot long x 10 feet high modular concrete segmental retaining wall. We provided constructability review, including contractor access, staging, and need for temporary construction easements for efficient construction.
A&O’s design plans were in accordance with Town of Apex standards to include structure typical sections and plan and profiles based on horizontal and vertical alignment. We also provided an engineer’s opinion of probable construction costs and technical specifications.
Segment 1, which included 1,241 linear feet of paved trail and the two retaining walls was bid and awarded for construction. During the construction phase, we answered contractor questions, provided product submittal reviews, addressed requests for information and change order requests, and performed field observation and reporting for structural items.
