Meadowmount Bridge Replacements
Structural and Hydraulic Design
Alpha & Omega Group was chosen by the Town of Chapel Hill to lead a team that includes Falcon Engineering and Taylor, Wiseman & Taylor for replacing two pedestrian bridges at Meadowmont Park.
A&O’s part of the work included structural and hydraulic engineering for the two bridges. The hydraulic scope included wetland delineation and jurisdictional determination as well as 401 and 404 permitting. We prepared a flood study, which involved data collection, hydraulic analysis, and a hydrology and hydraulics report with floodplain mapping. We prepared a conditional letter of map revision, and a letter of map revision. We coordinated with the North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program and environmental agencies, and complied with the Town of Chapel Hill’s environmental ordinance related to the floodway and floodway fringe regulations.
Our team member firm, Falcon Engineering, performed a geotechnical subsurface investigation to determine foundation recommendations for the proposed bridges. We reviewed Falcon’s recommendations as well as the flood study documents to determine precisely where the bridges were located. We determined span lengths and structure types and performed a constructability review. We also prepared construction plans and a cost estimate. Ω
