Rumbling Bald Resort Bridge Replacements
Construction Administration
Alpha & Omega Group provided inspection and design services to replace two bridges at Rumbling Bald Resort at Lake Lure. The original design work called for the Gateway Drive Bridge to serve as a detour bridge while the Quail Ridge Bridge was being replaced. However, a severe storm washed out the detour bridge in September, 2018, necessitating the replacement of both bridges.
After the storm, the project was expanded to include the repair to the Gateway Drive bridge. Within 30 days, we developed plans for a 45-ft cored slab Gateway Drive Bridge configuration, so that the contractor could amend the contract to include both bridges.
The Quail Ridge Bridge replacement is a single-span, cored slab bridge spanning 55 feet across a stream. As part of the utility coordination, Duke Energy relocated power off the bridge and AT&T placed fiber optic line back on both the bridges.
During construction, the contractor sold the company and changes to management took place, with up to four different project managers. This required the A&O team to maintain thorough documentation and provide details for a variety of changing factors. A&O's team coordinated permitting for a stream that crossed the property and completed all other construction administration tasks, including materials and invoice reviews, holding progress meetings, and providing project close-out documentation.
