Lake Royale Bridge Replacement
Roadway Design
After performing a bridge inspection and load rating analysis of a four-span bridge owned by Lake Royale Property Owner’s Association in Louisburg, NC, Alpha & Omega Group provided engineering services to replace the structure.
The horizontal alignment for the new bridge, on Sagamore Drive across Lake Royale, will remain in the existing location. We conducted a flood study to determine the minimum bridge elevation required to achieve a hydraulic no-rise condition. With this elevation established, the vertical alignment was set and completed by connecting the approach and trailing ends to the existing grades. Approximately 150 feet of the existing pavement on each side of the bridge will be milled down one inch and repaved for a smooth transition. The project was designed according to North Carolina Department of Transportation guidelines and standards.
In addition to roadway design, A&O’s scope of work on this project included bridge design, flood study, utility coordination, construction plan preparation, project specifications, erosion control, traffic control, and an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost. A&O also provided assistance with bidding and environmental permitting and managed the subconsultants who provided surveying and geotechnical services. Ω
