Mayo River State Park
Roadway Improvements
Alpha & Omega Group provided civil engineering services, as a consultant to HagerSmith Design, for the re-development of the historic Mayo River State Park in Mayodan, NC. After several years of limited maintenance, the Old Mayo Park Road had become heavily overgrown with vegetation along its full length, leaving the existing roadway virtually unrecognizable.
A&O’s scope for this portion of the project included the redesign of Old Mayo Park Road and designs for two new parking lots.
Highlights included:
Realigning the entrance of the park to intersect US 220 Business at 90 degrees.
Redesign of the existing 3,600-foot corridor to accommodate two 12-foot travel lanes with six-foot grass shoulders.
Design of secondary roads to access a new 40-car parking lot for the existing picnic shelter.
Design of secondary roads to access a new 20-car parking lot and access for the proposed contact station and workshop.
Design of approximately 900 feet of ADA-compliant sidewalk for site connectivity.
