Wake County Convenience Center Improvements 2019
Traffic calming, concrete slabs, erosion control, and more
Alpha & Omega Group provided professional services to improve conditions at nine of its 11 solid waste convenience centers in Wake County.
Improvements at Site 1 included the design of new concrete slabs with steel plate runners in line with the dumpster roller path, to replace damaged slabs. At Site 6, A&O designed terraced landscaping, incorporating timber steps to access the equipment and to provide erosion control. We designed speed humps throughout Site 7 and added flexible traffic delineators and a concrete mountable curb to improve the safety and flow of traffic. The design for Site 11 also incorporated several traffic safety measures. These measures included the addition of several speed humps as traffic calming devices and the removal of a concrete island between the exit aisle and the covered multi-material bins. Slabs on-grade were added at the loading dock for long-term semi-truck parking. Several sites received 8 x 8 - inch timber bumpers in dumpster bays to protect retaining walls. Parking wheel stops were replaced with flexible delineators at Sites 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
A&O’s scope included demolition and erosion control plans; grading, drainage, and staking plans; and other details. We provided project specifications for the overall project and an engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost for each site. We assisted with bidding, provided construction administration, and provided as-built record plans for all sites. Ω
